Good Parenting, Poor Parenting?

I was interested to read this article. Are western parents trying too hard to be friends and not parents? Will we ever be able to compete with the Chinese if this is their dedication?

I know I was impressed with the pass rates in international exams by my Chinese students, for many of who English was still a very difficult third or fourth language.

  1. The Chinese parenting techniques outlined in the article seem far too extreme to raise well-balanced individuals.

    Might as well raise robots.

    1. I think there is an element of that, when you look at the discipline of the Japanese (who do similar) during the earthquake/tsunami crisis, maybe we in the west are too liberal?
